This week I got to meet with my mentor Vannessa Standford for the first time. Even though we didn’t talk long, it was such a fantastic experience that I will never forget! We talked about my Orginal Work and my Final Project, but mainly we talked about why I want to do this Final Project and why it is so important to me. It was funny to say that it felt like I was in my own therapy session. And to be totally honest, it was very therapeutic. She gave a lot of fantastic advice and other ways I could even start my projects, such as a presentation or a broadcast, and she even invited me to join a club that she has with a couple of other girls that are all trying to do the same thing. We are also talking about having a little meeting either on zoom or in her office and ask a bunch of other dyslexic students about their story and how high school, middle school, and just the educational system as a whole and how it affected their journey. Therefore, we have a lot of different ideas, and I know we can take it a lot of different ways, but I’m super excited to see how everything plays out and how we choose to do this project and just hear all the stories about learning disabilities and I couldn’t have done any of this without the help of my fantastic mentor Vannessa!
